Nickelback这支乐队很早就显露了要成为新时代的涅磐的野心，可是涅磐从来没有主动地推销自己，而Nickel鄄back这支加拿大的乐队在成立之初为了发行自己的新专辑就已经发动所有的三姑六婆七叔八姨冒充真诚的进步的音乐爱好者要求电台播放Nickelback乐队的歌曲，同时还满街贴小广告发传单，就这样积累了一批铁杆乐迷。


Nickelback最早成立于加拿大的小城Hanna，最初的成员都是一帮好兄弟：主唱和贝斯手是亲兄弟，和鼓手是表兄弟，和吉他手是好朋友。这样一支私房乐队借了继父的4000美元，成立了一个音乐小作坊，开始的时候唱唱明星的歌曲，慢慢写些自己的音乐，表兄弟离开后，又一个好朋友加入，居然鼓捣出一张EP唱片《Hesher》，和一张独立专辑《Curb》，并且开始了像模像样的巡回演出。
